Music Memories – This Week – One Love

The one thing I love about music is that everyone has their own story to tell – the musician, the lyrics, the way the fans decipher them and also the way a song can also create a memory or a meaning to someone. That is what this new article is all about. Each fortnight, we will take a look at a different song and I will take you as a trip down memory lane as to what it means to me. Welcome to Music Memories.

Track: One Love
Artist: Blue
Original Release Date: 21st October 2002

I love rollercoaster rides and when I was growing up I would never miss an opportunity to go on one if there was a chance. When I was I think in my early twenties I have a story that relates to one of my favourite Theme Parks that I went to a lot when I was growing up – Thorpe Park.

I loved rollercoasters at Thorpe Park with the ten loop Colossus being my absolute favourite. I always loved the thrill that they brought but the one sort of ride I would never really go and try is the pendulum style rides and this time I felt that I would be a bit braver and try them.

I think I had been on a couple of them which I had enjoyed but this time I decided to go and try a ride that I had never had any intentions of trying before as it was not my sort of thing but thought I would give it a go this time – the Samurai.

It originally was a side that was at Chessington World Of Adventures and I always remember it being there so when I look back now I understand why I had confusion as to why it was in Thorpe Park but it was moved due to it being more of a thrill ride for the target audiences of Thorpe Park.

The ride lifts you up off the ground whilst spinning you and then turning you in the opposite direction – I have attached a video from Youtube so you can see the sort of movement I am talking about.

As soon as the ride lifted off the ground I knew that I did not like it and felt really unsafe – I didn’t like the thing that was strapping me in as I felt it was too loose as well. It probably was not but I felt it was because of the movement of the ride.

I hated the ride I was not a fan of the motion and hated the way that you moved around. Usually when I am on rides I go into hysterical laughter because I am really enjoying my self however with this ride I went the complete opposite way – I was silent. My comfort blanket when I scared or not feeling comfortable is sing and this is exactly what I did.

The one song that came to mind on the spot was the song One Love By Blue – I have no idea why but it was just the first track that I wanted to sign and I sung the chorus on repeat to get me through the rest of the ride. I was not a fan of that ride and definitely wont be going on it again.
