It is that time of the year where we celebrate the acts that you need to keep an eye on in 2023. It is an exciting time of the year as it means we can talk to acts to find out what they have in store for audiences and what you can look forward to in the new year. Today we speak to the musician St. Humain who has big plans for this year.
Hello please introduce yourself?
Hi! I go by the name St. Humain – I’m mainly a singer, songwriter and producer, but also do some design via my merch brand Emotional Sauna!
How was 2022 for you – what were the highlights?
2022 was all about rebirth for me… I started putting out more music again with three new singles, and also did a live show! All leading up to my second EP coming early 2023, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the world hearing it too.
How did you get into music?
I’ve always enjoyed music and I remember being a kid, getting home from school, and just jumping up and down on my bed to whatever was playing at the time. Then really got into listening to pop countdown shows on the radio… And I think everything started from there!
What are your plans for you in 2023?
Releasing my second EP “METADRAMATIC” for sure. That’ll kick off my whole year and hopefully we’re able to push it as far and wide as it can go… Fingers crossed.
What other bands and musicians are you looking forward to seeing perform this year?
I really really wanna see SZA especially after her new album dropped… Hopefully she comes to my part of the world, either here in Australia or back in Singapore!
What styles do you hope to see more of in music his year?
More pop-R&B with jazz and afrobeats influences — I’m hooked at the moment.
What band is your ones to watch in 2023 and why?
Ok so not really a band, but I really like Destiny Rogers’ music and hope she drops more in 2023! Her latest single “Fall Back”… I wish I wrote that because it’s addictive.
Do you have any new years resolutions? If so what are they?
This is going to sound super cliche, but I really want more peace and rest in my life. It’s been a very very busy time getting all the new music, visuals and merch out — and I barely feel that I’m doing enough still! But for my music career though… I would love for be able to reach more people with my music.
Are you on social media? If so how can people find out more about your troupe?
Yes! @sthumain everywhere, even BeReal
Three words why people should come and see you this year?
Dramatic. Energetic. Emotional.
QUICK FIRE ROUND
The movie or television show you are looking forward to seeing this year?
SQUID GAME 2. And Dune 2. Do these release in 2023? What about Stranger Things 5? Or the Witcher… But sadly I heard Henry Cavill has pulled out though so I’m not sure how that series is going at the moment.
Your favourite book?
I don’t really read much to be honest… But I used to. It would be the very first Harry Potter book.
One thing you will always remember about 2022?
I don’t think I can forget literally working every single day on putting and pushing all my new music out. Even though it was only three songs it was really hard work considering there was merch with each release too!
If you could paint anything what would you paint?
I wish I painted Starry Night but Van Gogh definitely did it first.
What is the most delightful word you can think of?
Bed.
Favourite album?
Right now it’s SZA’s new album SOS, literally can’t run away from it and I’m not mad about it.
Where would you love to go on holiday this year?
I would love to go to Europe or Korea… Hopefully both can happen since I’m actually planning to do it if things work out!
What is your favourite quote from a television show?
Okay this one is hard, ’cause I don’t remember any quotes haha. Hmm… Okay one iconic line that comes to mind is Hiro Nakamura’s “Save the cheerleader, save the world” from the series Heroes.
Who is your favourite film character and why?
Super random pick I think, but it would be one of the kids from Bridge to Terabithia… I just can’t decide if it’s the boy or the girl. It’s such a sad movie I know, but there’s just something about it – it’s so emotional and gets me every time. I’ve only seen it twice though. If not… I really like Wonder Woman. Or Black Panther. I can’t decide!
