Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Her Skin

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

It’s a love song called “suitable”. I wrote it as a reminder that love should be something natural and spontaneous and that it’s not something that you can force.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

The first single I released for this album was “confident” and I felt super happy and proud once it was out! We waited three years to release this track and it wasn’t easy to wait that long. I don’t know how artists cope with the time it takes to get music out.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

I really like the work we did on heavy-hearted! I love that Audrey Hepburn audio at the beginning, the lyrics, the fact that it gets super noisy and wild towards the end. We had so much fun recording it!

Your favourite song to play live:

“Confident”, definitely. It’s so fun to play.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

I guess “”suitable” because I changed the lyrics so many times. “Changing” was the hardest to record production wise though, we weren’t even sure we liked it until we recorded the cello.

Your most emotional track:

“it’s hard to breathe/ I started a garden”. I wrote it in the worst period of my life and I think it really shows.

The best lyric you have ever written:

“I started a garden, I thought it would help, just ended up being surrounded by plants” it makes me laugh but it’s also very very sad and I like this contrast!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It’s a mix of fear and gratitude and anxiety but also knowing deep inside that that’s my favourite place to be in the world and where I feel the happiest.

The hardest track to play live:

Either “bones” or “forget me”. They’re both not easy to sing at all!

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Lots and lots and lots of books.

Describe your fans in three words:

Soft, kind and romantic.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

“Say Yes” by Elliot Smith, of course

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

I want to be on tour forever so hopefully you can look forward to that! I’ll be at New Colossus in NY and at SXSW in Austin in 2023 so I think my plan is going really well…
