Taste Of States – This Week – Pop Tarts Frosted Grape

Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.

POP TARTS FROSTED GRAPE

The thing I love about writing this article is that you end up discovering a history about an item you never knew existed and today we are going to look at an item that has been brought back permanently by popular demand!

When the Pop Tarts first came around in the late 1960’s there were a handful of flavours that were released and one of those was none other then Frosted Grape. A Pop Tart is sort of like a breakfast biscuit type thing that is filled with some sort of jam and then has white icing on top – this particular version had grape jelly as the filling. The fan favourite got discontinued in the 90s and made a temporary return to the shelves in 2014. However, in 2019 a delightful piece of news was announced that they were going to make a permanent return to the shelves. They could be purchased in Walmart for around $3.19.

Fans of the pop tart flavour were delighted and reviews online reflect the positive response – some say they taste like grape soda, others say that they are really tasty and others commented on how much they enjoy the bold flavour.
