Piece Of My Heart – Shaggy feat Marsha Morrison
Today we are going to look at a song that was released in the late nineties that was actually a cover of a track that was originally released by Erma Franklin in the 1960s. In 1997, reggae musician Shaggy released his version of the track which also featured Marsha Morrison.
Shaggy’s version was released under the record label of Virgin and was taken from his fourth album which was called Midnite Lover which was also released the same year. The song has been covered by many artists, this one did reasonably well. The single went to number 7 in the United Kingdom, it also charted in other countries as well including New Zealand (6) and Italy (19).
I only heard this song for the first time the other day when it popped up on a playlist that was a throwback. It is very different to the original and has been altered so that it is in style of track. I don’t prefer it to the original but it is an interesting take. Also, Marsha has a nice voice as well.
