Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are going to look at a book by one of the co-founders Ed Catmull.
Creativity Inc (2014)
Ed Catmull
Synopsis
Part autobiography, part history of Pixar, part business book, Creativity Inc is a stimulating, feel-good, insightful and highly inspirational collection of lessons in creativity and business from the president of Pixar and Disney Animation, Ed Catmull.
– from Waterstones
Positive Points
I personally found this a really good read, it is a really in depth look at the beginning of Pixar and how it ended up becoming one of the best animation studios in the world. There is so much in depth information that you may not of realised about Pixar including the involvement of Steve Jobs and trying to push the production company and the computer programmes that they created to produce animations such as Toy Story.
Negative Points
This book is very long and at times you have to push yourself to read it because there is a lot of information to take in. At times it can feel a bit heavy with business information so be warned for that.
Overall Review
Whilst this is a long read, I would say that it is a must read for anyone that is a fan of Pixar as it really does give an interesting story of the struggle the studios originally had when they were developing the world of 3D animation. It may feel a little long at times, but there are some really interesting sections of this book.
