Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – St. Humain

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

My latest single is called “Memento” and it’s about those hazy feelings that stick when you’re thinking about someone you miss. It’s quite an emotional journey lyrically, with everything leading up to that one text that you keep looking back to when things fall apart. It’s quite an upbeat musically though – a fellow artist friend of mine Sätilä called it a sadbop and I definitely  agree!

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

It was back in 2017, called “Make a Move”. It was a long time coming and I think I was itching to release music. I remember being quite nervy and excited at the same time, just wondering who would even listen. Funny thing is that led me to signing a little record deal so I guess it worked out then!

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

This is a hard one! I think right now the favourite is actually the single that’s coming out next, which I can’t tell you the title of yet but… It’s even more dramatic than “Memento”.

Your favourite song to play live:

I actually haven’t played live a whole lot, but I think it’s going to be “The Thought of You”. It’s so fun being over the top with the song’s narrative.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

The funny thing is that it’s actually my debut “Make a Move”. I think because I was just overthinking everything, with it being my first song and all that. I don’t know. What I do know is that nowadays I tend to pretty much finish songs really quickly, but then take my time polishing it up till the point of tracking my vocals.

Your most emotional track:

My next single. Trust me… Even when I think about it myself I go, “Damn.”

The best lyric you have ever written:

This is so hard! I don’t think I can rate myself like this, I don’t think I’m that good. Maybe a clever line that comes to mind is in a song that I reckon won’t even be released but the line goes… “I’m jealous of your pillow, it should be replaced by me.” So emotional, I know.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It feels like the opening scene of a movie. Not that I’m a superstar or anything but for me it’s the moments before the drama unfolds.

The hardest track to play live:

It’s another of my upcoming singles, this time I can tell you the title, it’s called “Pillow”. I get surprised every time how the groove and pocket is so laid back, but it doesn’t feel like it when you just listen to it.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

I haven’t actually been on tour ha! But my phone, 100%. And my skincare products haha. It’s like a daily ritual to wake up and wind down right now.

Describe your fans in three words:

Surprising (in a good way!), fun, and kind.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

I go back to this all the time. It’s the happy birthday song, because literally everyone knows it!

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

I’m finally releasing my second EP towards the end of the year. It’s called METADRAMATIC and I can’t wait for you to experience it in full!
