Music Memories – This Week – Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!

The one thing I love about music is that everyone has their own story to tell – the musician, the lyrics, the way the fans decipher them and also the way a song can also create a memory or a meaning to someone. That is what this new article is all about. Each fortnight, we will take a look at a different song and I will take you as a trip down memory lane as to what it means to me. Welcome to Music Memories.

Track: Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!
Artist: Vengaboys
Original Release Date: October 1998

I find it weird when you hear a song and it sparks a memory that you completely forgot about it until a specific line in the song. The other day I had a music channel on in the background when I was doing other things and The VengaBoys song came on and even though I have heard the song a few times it was  only this time that the chorus sparked a very old memory for me.

Back in Primary School in year 6 (age 10/11) they decided that one day it would be fun to have a camping day – this meant setting up a bunch of tents at the end of the field in our school and sectioning it off so that our year (which was about 20 people) could experiencing camping. It started at the beginning of the school day and ended at about 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

The idea of the day was we sat in a tent with about three or four other people, had some games, had a BBQ and then had a talent show. This particular song reminded me that I actually entered this talent show and used this particular track.

I remember that the Vengaboys single was on a cassette so I had to have it at the exactly right point for my performance. I do not remember much about it but I do remember that I did a dance routine to the track boom boom boom boom. The only memory of it that I have is that it was at this camp day and that the stereo was portable and black. Incredibly  small memories that I had forgotten in an instant until I heard this the other day, it is only when you are older you realise the lyrics probably were not the greatest.
