Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Virtue In Vain

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Our latest single is called ‘ The Whispers Of Sleep’. The Whispers Of Sleep came about from a nightmare a member of the band had. At one point he wasn’t sure if he was awake or sleeping and even when he woke he wasn’t sure what was real and not. This song is built upon that feeling at that moment. The song also incorporates how our dreams/nightmares are created from our subconscious and how it makes moments from our past, be it places or people, feel so real.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

Our first single was called ‘Watchmaker’. At the time we were so proud we had released a song as we had never done that before. Still to this day we are proud of the song, but we can look back now and see it as a starting point for this band and what it has done for us. It’s good to reflect to see how far we have come since then.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

Hywel: ‘Marionette’ off our EP ‘Dusk//Dawn’. It’s a fast and heavy song that has all the elements I love in a song. It’s great to play live and I love hearing it back.

Your favourite song to play live:

‘Marionette’. It’s just got energy to it that I love playing. It really is a staple in our set that shows the kind of band we are.

Your most emotional track:

‘Negative Silent’. I won’t go into lots of detail, but the song is a reflection of a dark period of my life and it goes through the thoughts and feelings that comes with it. The music and lyrics to the song, I feel, do convey what we wanted to say in this song.

The best lyric you have ever written:

That’s a difficult question. I would have to say ‘Burning bridges is nothing when I’m burning the city’. I love the line and its meaning behind it. For me the line is saying, ending friendships and any kind of relationships you have is secondary when you are hurting yourself and sinking deeper into a worst place.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It’s a mix of joy and nerves for me. I love doing it but I always get nervous for every show we have ever played. Soon as the music plays, I just go into vocalist mode and just get into the songs and I don’t think of the nerves anymore.

The hardest track to play live:

‘The Whispers Of Sleep’. Our newest single has got some new elements in it that we haven’t tried before, so it’s not quite got to muscle memory yet so still is a little tricky to get perfect.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Clean clothes to change into after a show, laptop, and lots of spare stage tape. Honestly the more taper we have the better as things always go wrong, but that tape is a savior.

Describe your fans in three words:

Supportive, Kind and amazing

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

‘Assistant To The Regional Manager’ by The Devil Wears Prada

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

We are currently writing for our next EP. We have also just announced a small run of shows in the UK later this year and also have some plans in the works to tour early 2023 so keep checking out our socials for updates.
