Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
“TRACE Amounts of Death” is the first single from our upcoming EP Precursor. The song is about the creatures that begin to inhabit Earth before Cthulhu’s awakening.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
“A Thing With Wings” was released in December of 2020 in the run-up to the release of our self-titled debut. We felt really good about it, and still do. Art is hard because looking back you always find things you’d do differently, and ATWW isn’t an exception, but still proud of that one.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
I (Reed) think my favourite song so far is the title track (Precursor) on the Precursor EP. As far as one that’s already been released, A Broken Heart Feeds Two may be it for me.
Your favourite song to play live:
As of yet, Cthulhu Dreamt has primarily been a studio concept project, but playing shows is definitely something we discuss. However, in our rehearsals and play-throughs, Devoid is definitely one that’s fun to play; it just has a cool vibe.
Your most emotional track:
This could be different for every listener, but I think A Broken Heart Feeds Two is maybe one of the more emotional.
The best lyric you have ever written:
I really like the final section at the end of TRACE, because it’s a flow of words where the thoughts elide:
Can you feel when they tear your mind from your body shakes at the slightest sign of the threat they make while you stand watching them grotesquely free themselves from bonds of humankind
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Nerves and excitement, and hopefulness that someone in the audience will be into it.
The hardest track to play live:
For me, it’s anything really fast, cause my ability is really limited. I can do it, it just takes a lot out of me, and I’ve never been great at walking and chewing gum at the same time, so playing and singing is something I work hard at.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Never been on tour, but I’d definitely thing external chargers for the phone… and toiletries (I like to feel clean).
Describe your fans in three words:
Awesome and magical.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
I never really think about music in that way, but there are definitely things I appreciate and let influence my writing as well. I guess, though, if I had to choose a song that I wouldn’t mind having written, it’d probably be Tornado of Souls by Megadeth.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
This fall sees the release of our Precursor EP, and some massive announcements about the next chapter of Cthulhu Dreamt: the TTRPG, which will includes a sprawling original soundtrack, and a bunch of really rad stuff made by really rad people.
