Forgotten Songs! – This Week – Take A Chance On Me

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them very rarely that they can create a sense of nostalgic for you, the listener. So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

Take A Chance On Me – Erasure

There are so many bands that do covers of famous tracks that I thought it would be fun to look at a one of them. Today’s cover takes us to the early nineties and was a cover of a song by Abba.

In the early nineties the band Erasure decided to release an EP called Abba-esque which had a number of Abba tracks on it with a new sound. On the 1st June 1992, the band released their version of Take A Chance On Me. It was released on the record label called Mute.

Their version of the single was welcomed with open arms and praised for its unique twist. However, even though it reached enough points to reach high up in the Hot 100 Chart, it actually was not eligible to be entered into the charts because it was not officially released as a single.

I was watching a music channel the other day and this version came on the television, I had never heard it before and found it different. The music video mimics the original but instead sees the members of the band dressed up in drag.  I found it catchy and fun and can see why it was so popular.
