Hello! Tell us about Bad Clowns?

The Bad Clowns consist of Sam Walls, John Bond and Christian Dart, three friends who write and perform shows all over the UK. Our shows consist of a blend of written and improvised comedy, which makes for a unique show every time!

What’s the name of your show this year?

Bad Clowns: Invasion

How did you come up with the name of your show that you’re taking to the fringe?

For a show about alien invasion, it just seemed the most appropriate name.

Tell us all about your show!

Bad Clowns: Invasion is the story of 3 inept special agents who are on the hunt for a mind controlling alien parasite. However, there’s one issue – the alien has taken over the mind of an audience member. It’ll take special tech, interrogation techniques, and bomb disarmal skills to crack down on this intergalactic criminal.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

There are so many to choose from! We always love seeing our friends Just These Please, Kwame Asante, and Andy Field, but also really recommend catching the Dark Room!

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This will be the fourth time we’ve taken part in the Fringe, and can recommend one thing – taking part in variety shows gives audience members who may not have heard of you a chance to see what you’re made of! We’ve found doing sneak peeks of the show has worked really well in drawing in audiences.

What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?

One of our favourite shows we’ve done has to be Bad Clowns: Hostage – the pretence that the audience is being held hostage by a crazed gunman is just immense fun to carry out.

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

“I enjoy sun dried tomatoes, leggy women, and everything in between.”

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

We saw a sketch show that centered around a pile of mashed potato formed into the shape of a face. I don’t think I can ever forget it.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Take a punt on something weird – you can see stand-up any time, but this might be your only time to see something truly bizarre.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

It’s the most intense and fantastic way to develop a show – when you improvise as much as we do in our shows, you can start to surprise each other which is incredible fun.

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

There’s the halfway point where you’re both completely exhausted and out of your mind – if you can get over that, you’ll make it to the end.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Suncream, umbrellas, and water. Not funny, but so necessary.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

If you can make someone laugh whilst handing them a flyer, you’ve won half the battle. That and just maintaining the immense willpower that flyering needs.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Anyone who likes to laugh, both at us and themselves, and is happy to go for it!

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

You can find us on all social media platforms under BadClownsComedy!

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

YOU’RE the alien.
