Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Lui$a

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Limelight: Into the Cyber Space is a visual project consisting of five songs taken from my latest EP, “Limelight”. From my virtual screen to yours, I tell the story of Kosovo’s youth, serving a different perspective of Kosovo’s locations aside from the Kosovar citizen’s generic point of view of the city. As many might say, Kosovo is the motherland of the starlets & innovators of today. From recording artists such as Dua Lipa and Rita Ora to songwriters like Njomza, I consider Kosovo the miniature factory of creativity and I want to show that to the world.

Overall being from both New York & Kosovo, I try to blend both cultures to create my signature sound & identity. The video was directed by Valon Aziri, a well-known director based in Kosovo. The songs are all written by me, produced by me alongside my father, Florent Boshnjaku.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

Blue is the first single I officially released! It was an amazing feeling when I released my first ever original song and getting to see the feedback from new listeners, my peers and my family. I got to work with an astonishing creative and inspiring human being who is known as Undefined Xik for my cover art, his clothing items have been worn by the likes of Lil Keed and Matt Ox.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

My favorite song off of my EP changes all the time, but, at the moment it is Virtual Popstar. The song tells the story of an online phenomenon and social media icon that empowers women to get what they want and what they deserve to live a glamorous life. Even though the so called “Icon” isn’t a real public figure, I wrote this track to help individuals work hard, manifest what the Virtual Popstar already has and not let negativity get in their way.

Your favourite song to play live:

Obsidian is my current favorite track to play live. Even though it requires a lot of vocal practice to perform that song live, I still found ways to make the performance entertaining and visually appealing to the audience.

Your most emotional track:

My most emotional track would have to be Blue! While reminiscing about New York and exploring young love, I was able to catch those feelings and turn them into the song that is Blue.

The best lyric you have ever written:

“I’m a God call me Sphynx” is my personal favorite lyric that I have written (my best lyric is still unreleased and it’s ready to come out really soon). When I wrote the song “Virtual Popstar”, I was going through a phase of self-doubt and anxiety and the only thing that got me out of that self-critical episode was affirmations. Affirmations have not only helped me regain my confidence and overall artistic strength, but, they enhanced my ability of being productive in an artistic field.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

I think the best thing about being a performer/singer for so long is not having stage fright. I’ve gone past the phase of having anxiety before a performance since I love dancing and singing on stage. I adore the euphoric feeling of performing on stage and the adrenaline the crowd gives me!

The hardest track to play live:

Virtual Popstar is probably the HARDEST one to play live! The song itself has a lot of words and plays with octaves a lot, so I have to maintain the balance of keeping up with the song while still performing and dancing on stage.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

I haven’t gone on tour yet, but, my go-to items I always keep with me during performances are water (being hydrated is a must), lip balm (I dislike singing while my lips are chapped) and a medium T-shirt.

Describe your fans in three words:

Inspiring, expressive and heartwarming

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Vogue by Madonna or Gimme more by Britney Spears

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

I’m currently focused in working with artists as a producer and songwriter, but despite that, I have many cool projects in store for the summer and I can’t wait to get them released!
