Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
‘One Track Way’ is narratively my take on the song ‘Highway to Hell’. I wrote it when I was around 14 and I even used a line in my GCSE poetry anthology in the chorus because I thought it sounded cool aha. It’s pretty much an alternative / indie rock tune that has an interesting story lyrically.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
My first single was ‘Novacaine’. When I released it, I was immensely proud of myself as I wrote it when I was 12 and I managed to record it in a studio with some of my friends. I recorded, released the song and played it live for the first time when I was 15. This was a huge feat for me as I organised everything to do with the single myself and it was a very busy time, but it kickstarted everything for me.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
‘Fever Dream’ was really cool to make and it is very narrowly my favourite track. It is the most recent track on the EP and I had not ventured into that very alternative side of things before. Coming up with the chords progression, I knew that there was something interesting that I could create. The whole recoding and production process for ‘Fever Dream’ was really interesting!
Your favourite song to play live:
Probably ‘Habits’ because I have so many ideas on different arrangements for live performances.
Your most emotional track:
Probably ‘Novacaine’. I was so young when I wrote it, but I feel like tapped into something that will be hard to recreate. From the lyrics to the instrumentation, ‘Novacaine’ is beautifully tragic in my opinion.
The best lyric you have ever written:
I’m not sure this is my best, but in my song ‘Fever Dream’ I describe frustration through: technicolour face no saturation’s right for you. It doesn’t seem much, but I really researched that to make sure what I was saying wasn’t nonsense.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Honestly, I don’t really have much of a feeling? I may be minimally nervous, but unless something has unsettled me before the performance or I don’t feel too well, I’m just ready to go
The hardest track to play live:
‘Fever Dream’ namely because I haven’t attempted it with a live band due to it being quite production heavy. I would have to have a think about how the track can be imagined with live instruments.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Currently, I am OBSESSED with Florence + the Machine’s new album Dance Fever!! It actually pains me to think of what song I wish I wrote because they’re all so amazing. Forcing myself to choose, probably ‘Cassandra’, ‘Daffodil’ or ‘My Love’ (I can’t choose one sorry).
