Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
New Romans was written a year into the pandemic, while living in a covid rental in Brooklyn. The music has a serious, almost systematic tone that became the soundtrack to living in a dystopian movie. Working alongside fellow artist and longtime friend Blue Canopy, his echoing, ethereal vocals added a pensive but reassuring tone that felt like a perfect fit.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
I released I Forgot It By Heart in February of 2021. Stylistically, it’s a little bit different than the rest of my first EP but in many ways it felt closest to home than any of the others. It’s musically in the style of Wilco, a band I was immensely into during some of my formative years. It’s sort of a sound that is reminiscent of comfort food for me so taking the big first step in showing my world that I had music to share with this song felt right.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
Pinecone Alley is another song close to my heart. The music I wrote for it poured out of me as though I was journaling about a time and place in my life. It’s about a time in my life I once held sacred, innocent, idyllic, only to have it tainted forever by tragedy. It’s about longing to return to that place and knowing you can never, but living in it for one moment might be enough. When I sent the instrumental to Sky Adler, he didn’t know any of this, yet his lyrics somehow conveyed the message beautifully.
Your favourite song to play live:
I’ve yet to have a live show so we shall see
Your most emotional track:
Pinecone Alley
The best lyric you have ever written:
“Ask me on the elevator, I’ll tell you what it’s all about”
Describe your fans in three words:
Beautiful interesting people
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Sunset Canyon by Foxwarren
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
I have just released my EP, Elevator Chat. The full EP features some amazing vocalists such as Benét, Blue Canopy, Misty Boyce, Sucreblooms and Dripping Honey. I’m working on my follow up this this record already and hoping to releasing it this fall.
