Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
The Auxiliary released Overture at the end of January and it was the debut for this new project.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
It felt great to finally have Overture out in the world. I haven’t released music in a long time, and The Auxiliary has been in development for a while as well. Overture is a bit experimental, so it felt satisfying in a “don’t tell me what to do” kind of way to lead with something left field.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
There’s a song called “words” that will probably live on an LP eventually and really ticks all the boxes.
Your favourite song to play live:
Haven’t played live in 3+ years after touring for a decade. Rehearsing now to get The Auxiliary on the road and I’d have to say a song called “Hemisphere” is my favorite to play so far.
Your most emotional track:
The acoustic version of Overture – coming soon.
The best lyric you have ever written:
Not really up to me. I think there is a lyric somewhere in each song that will resonate with different people.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
I hope it’s not nerves! It used to be a feeling of calm and control. Like this is my space, my spot, my time – but it might take a while to slide back into that groove.
The hardest track to play live:
Anything in Emaj. It’s either the very top of my range or the very bottom and after a couple nights on the road it’ll be hard to sing.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Tea. Electric kettle. Extra chargers for anything that needs charging. Hotel studio set up with headphones, mic, interface, midi keys. A good schedule/day sheet situation.
Describe your fans in three words:
Still meeting them.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
I don’t play that game. The kind of artists I enjoy (and the kind of artist I strive to be) are so specifically themselves, that I wouldn’t want their songs for my own.
What we can look forward to from your band this year :
More music! The Auxiliary has 2 EPs planned this year and some touring and live-streaming. A lot to do.
