A new year means there are lots of new and exciting shows, music, albums, comedy and much around the corner and we have an exciting month for you! In true Phoenix Remix tradition we are chatting to lots of different acts all about what they have in store for 2022. Today we talk to the band Tarah Who? about new music, tour and much more.
Hello Tarah Who? Tell us all about yourself?
Coralie : My name is Coralie and I’m the drummer of Tarah Who?
Tarah: I am Tarah, Guitar and vocals.
How did you get into music?
Coralie : I was 10 when I started playing drums. My mum was already in the music school of my town playing guitar and I just follow.
Tarah: I was just drawn to the drums, so we started a rock band when I was 14 years old and I taught myself how to play, later I learned the bass and I had a couple of bands. A few years later, I felt the need to write songs so I started to play the guitar. I still play all three instruments and have different projects. Music is just part of my life. I never really thought about it. It’s almost become a need to play, a need to express myself.
What have been your favourite songs you have released?
Tarah: Each song is very personal to me so it is hard to pick favorites. The time we spend in the studio is very special and when I hear the studio version of the songs, I remember how we came up with that part of what happened at that moment, which makes every recording special. If I were to pick one or 2 out of the new album, I would say ‘Manners’ and ‘Supposedly A Man’ . ‘Manners’ because I am really happy with how it came out, and Jason and I worked on the vocals and tried different things. Also, I wanted to hear some type of “Choir” during the break so we have a fun memory of us 2 singing all of the different notes so that it would sound like a gregorian choir. I also feel like it has a strong message. ‘Supposedly A Man’, I am really happy that it is a lot of my friend’s favorite songs from the album. When I finished the demo, I could tell some people didn’t really get it, but then they heard the master and had a totally different reaction. An instant approval, which was really satisfying. Overall I am happy with how all of the songs came out and I am even happier to see how our fans like it too.
What are your plans for 2022?
Coralie: We are working on a new EP that hopefully will be coming out in 2022, and hopefully playing some shows too!
Tarah: Yeah I can’t wait to get back on the road, and as coco said, we are working on some new material to be released in 2022.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing perform online or in person to this year?
Coralie: I cannot yet to see my favorite band , Nightwish, in New York !! It’s gonna be amazing !!
Tarah: I don’t really know… I haven’t really looked into it. I have been hibernating in my studio, promoting our stuff, and writing new songs! haha!
What styles do you hope to see more of in music this year?
Tarah: I think more original music. There is so much pop and similar artists these days, a lot of independent bands really have something new to offer. Sounds and songs that are in my opinion really really good, but they are still in the shadows and that is a shame.
What musician is your one to watch in 2022 and why?
Tarah: Well since we are promoting our band, I’d say, watch for our new songs I mean.. why, not?
Do you have any new years resolutions? If so what are they?
Tarah: nah…
Are you on social media? If so how can people find out more about you?
Tarah: We are on most of them but mainly active on Instagram. we are trying TikTok here and there, but it’s too much time for posting content for me! lol! so I am sticking to Instagram.
Three words why people should come and see you this year?
Coralie: Good Time Ahead !!! Hahahaha !!!
Tarah: Discover, Support, Rock out.
QUICK FIRE ROUND
The movie or television show you are looking forward to seeing this year?
Coralie: I will say the TV show The Wilds, cannot wait to see what’s gonna happen.
Tarah:I was waiting on Wentworth but we just finished it!
Your favourite book?
Coralie: I really like the manga Death Note.
Tarah: I don’t really have favorites, but one that stands out and I can think of right now is “Healing without Freud or Prozac” by Dr David Servan-Schreiber.
If you could paint anything what would you paint?
Tarah: I actually love to paint. I find it really relaxing and it is my other mind getaway, outside of music. Definitely more abstract. Pollock-ish but not really.
Favourite album?
Coralie: All of Nightwish’s albums !!!
Tarah I don’t have one favorite, but some that I could still enjoy very much, ‘Coral Fang’ Distillers – ‘JLP’ Alanis.
