Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Catching Mangoes

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

We have just released the Official Music Video from the final single off our debut album. Its called Bloom Orlando and it’s a quirky rock tune about a loveable hippy who goes on many adventures, cheats at poker and fakes his way into cults. Its streaming now on our YouTube so go check it out. The album follows the story of a young lad called Kevin who is escaping his hometown in search of the truth surrounding his small town.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

We released our first single in 2017 and it was wicked to get a tune out there. It was such a long time ago now and we have progressed so much musically so its funny to think how we’d approach it nowadays, but I still enjoy listening to it every now and then. We still occasionally play it live to for our OG fans. It’s called Voices.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

I have a few favourites from our most recent album, but at the moment my #1 is probably The Ronnie Jon Song. It’s a proper rock and roll classic about a fisherman who sails the seven seas and its so much fun, just makes me want to dance and smile whenever I hear it. Sort of tune you want to whack up the volume and get lost in for me.

Your favourite song to play live:

I’m loving playing the second tune on the album ‘Columbo Chris’ at the moment. We’ve recently recruited 2 new members and it’s sounding massive live, a great opener.

Your most emotional track:

There are a few slower ones on the album, but I think the very last song on the album ‘Epilogue’ has a real nostalgic feel to it. Whenever I hear it, it brings me back to 2am on the final night of our album recording session where we were doing the final touches and going a bit insane.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Entirely depends on the show. Sometimes I’m super chill and sometimes I’m nervous, but always buzzing to be playing shows to people.

The hardest track to play live:

Kevin’s Town for sure. We still haven’t nailed it yet live. Sounds class on the recording though!

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Bat out of hell by Meatloaf

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

Saturday we are playing at Off The Record Festival, Hove

20th Dec – playing at The Hope and Ruin, Brighton

We are also working on an EP which will be coming out next year, stay tuned!
