Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Kae Sera

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Well it’s lyrically a confident reply to confusing text messages you get from an ex. I wrote the music on guitar first and then evolved a response I wished I had sent. It was saved in my iPhone notes ready to send but I wasn’t brave enough, so this formed the lyrics.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

My first single was ‘Dames Jean’ I didn’t fully realise how many people would listen to it or share it. When you write music it is so personal and then all of a sudden it is a very public piece of work. I felt overjoyed knowing that it also meant something to other people.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

It’s coming soon!

Your favourite song to play live:

One of the first songs I ever wrote but it isn’t in the public domain…yet.

Your most emotional track:

The Moon is the most emotive track as it is a personal account of something I have experienced. It’s written in first person and it was the quickest song I have ever written as it represents something that was very real.

The best lyric you have ever written:

Ha well that is very subjective. I think that’s up to the listeners really. I would say that most of my tracks are story based and I like to set the scene. ‘Dames Jean’ was inspired by American travelogues and it had a lots of play on words that reflected a journey.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Euphoric.

The hardest track to play live:

My next release!

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

I haven’t toured yet but whenever I travel far to recording sessions I always take a voice recorder so that I can quickly save songs that I write on my way.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

I have so many. One of the top of my head is ‘In your atmosphere’ by John Mayer. Listen to the live at the Nokia Theatre version.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

Performances and more releases.
