Gigstory – The Bowling For Soup & Blooodhound Gang Gig….

Welcome to a feature that will be published every other week. I go to a lot of gigs and there are always little stories that come out of them that I always want to tell someone so what better place to do it!

The Bowling For Soup & Blooodhound Gang Gig….

When I left home for the first time at 18 I promised myself that I would go to lots and lots of gigs. There wasn’t any venues in easy reach of our home so when I got to University and saw there was loads of venues I was very excited. The first gig I went to was to see Bowling For Soup.

Bloodhound Gang

I went along with one of my university mates and was excited to see my first American band live. The first thing that was a bit shocking when me and my friend walked into the gig was how young a lot of the audience was and a lot of them had backpacks on and had obviously come with their parents. You may be reading this thinking oh ok well that is nice that their parents took them to a gig…well when I tell you who their support act is you may change your mind.. The Bloodhound Gang.

When I heard that Bloodhound Gang were supporting Bowling For Soup I had no idea what to expect. You have heard the songs and I was intrigued to see what they were like live, well they were very outside the box. This gig was also the first time that I saw Zebrahead live as well but that is a different story that we will get to at a different time.

Bowling For Soup

Firstly Bowling For Soup, they were great, I have seen them live a couple of times, they know how to put on a show and they are fantastic. Before we talk more about Bowling For Soup, we have to mention Bloodhound Gang set – they played all their hits but then smack bang in the middle of it Jared, a member of the band downed a pint of beer, was sick and then drank the sick back up – that was only the beginning.

When Bowling For Soup came on stage, at some point in their set they asked Jared to come on stage, put the band member Chris on a wooden crate, got a rope and tied that to the crate and then the other end to the inside of Jared’s trousers. As you can imagine the parents around us were in shock at what they had brought their teens to see. To be fair, we were as well we had no idea what the hell was going on.

It was a very random gig and as you can imagine sticks in my mind as one I won’t forget. I have seen Bowling For Soup many times but that was the most insane.
