Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
I just released “Dans Ma Poche” which means “in my pocket” and it is my first French release. Being born in Montréal it’s been a real treat to finally release something that nods to that side of my upbringing. It’s about all my favorite things: my family, friends and pastries.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
My first release was actually an EP called “Still”. I remember being both proud and terrified. It was about the end of my first big love and I remember thinking that releasing the project would be a big, cathartic moment, which is was not! More like salt in an open wound because I’ve since learned that it takes time to heal from loss. I hear the music now though and am proud of the stories. It’s a complete thought, which is different from my subsequent releases.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
On my next album “Windborne”, which will be out this fall, there is a song called “Catch On Fire”. It hits me right in the heart and it’s not a single but I love to sing it. The words have continued to grow with me.
Your favourite song to play live:
Girlfriend. It puts me right in my feels. All that anger that I usually have no clue what to do with has a gorgeous outlet in that song & I eat up every moment.
Your most emotional track:
Home.
The best lyric you have ever written:
Losing you is like a slow burn ‘cause when that flame dies your heart’s on embers.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
I’m usually a nervous wreck right up until that moment. When I finally walk on stage and the show starts, all the nerves melt away and I’m just in it. It is a heightened sense of presence, awareness and listening that I strive to carry with me more in my everyday life.
The hardest track to play live:
Argentina. I love to perform it but it’s a surprisingly hard one for me to sing.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Snacks. I am a hungry human. Aside from music, it’s one of the main things on my mind and a real source of joy in my life. But when you travel, especially in the states, you end up eating a lot of weird stuff at weird hours that make you feel weird so I’ve learned the hard way that it’s important to travel equipped!
Describe your fans in three words:
Listeners. Connected. Love.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Down by Emily King
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
More music!!! And videos!!! The music video for “Dans Ma Poche” is going to drop in a couple weeks and then beyond that is my next full record “Windborne” and I’m already working on the next releases to follow! It’s an exciting time and I can’t wait to keep it coming, so please stay tuned and follow along on insta or on my website 🙂
