In The Games Corner – MEMORY CARD EDITION – The Frustrating World Of Hook

I have been playing computer games from a very young age and I find that some games when I think of them are attached to very strong memories. So, I thought it would be fun to share memories that I have attached to some of these games as there are a few. I wanted to call this feature Memory Card because a lot of my memories that i have strongly are around the Playstation 1 and there will be a few around that particular card. Today we take a look at HOOK

The music starts and the 2D graphics launch, with a little fairy leading the way into the title credits, the logo is one that will be remembered by all, however the game may not be. It was difficult, it was irritating and whilst the gameplay wasn’t the best the music was actually a little bit catchy. If you haven’t guessed it already, today we are taking a trip back down memory lane with the computer game that ran along the much loved family film, Hook.

The aim of the game was to save the children from Captain Hook by completing different side scrolling platforms. Throughout the game there are levels where you have to fight Hook one on one and other levels where you have to fly. You navigate through the platforms by choosing different locations on a map with a compass and are guided through with Tinkerbell as to where you need to go next. The areas in which you have to compete levels are the forests, the caves, lagoons, icy terrain and a city. In each level there will be different items that you have to collect such as fruit.

The gameplay was quite tricky and at times irritating to control, however due to the fact it was released alongside and to reflect the film it brought a sort of nostalgia with it. The sense of feeling that you got when playing the game made you forget about the glitches that it had and the difficulty some levels brought. The music was slightly irritating and so is Tinkerbell but if you have enough patience to get past this then you will be happy to continue the game.
