Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.
DEEP FRIED BUBBLEGUM
Today we are heading to a State Fair as it is a fantastic place to find unusual deep fried food. Today we look at a snack that was introduced at the Texas State Fair in 2011 and it even won the award for Most Creative award from the Big Tex Choice Awards. What the most unusual thing about the product is that it is not exactly what you think it is.
Deep Fried Bubblegum is actually not bubblegum at all, instead it is marshmallows apparently these are used as you cannot chew bubble gum when it is deep fried. So how does this creator Justin Martinez make the whole item taste and feel like bubblegum?
The marshmallows are dipped in bubblegum flavoured extract that are then covered in bubblegum flavoured dough and then deep fried. To finish off the snack the snacks are then covered with blue icing and chiclets.
The deep fried Bubblegum won the most creative award at the Big Tex Choice awards missing out to the winning spot which was won by Buffalo Chicken In A Flapjack.
