There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them very rarely that they can create a sense of nostalgic for you, the listener. So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

Shackles (Praise You) – Mary Mary

Today we look at a single that was a success in the charts and if you were around in the late nineties then this song was played a lot on pop radio stations. Shackles (Praise You) was the debut single by American gospel duo Mary Mary. The single was released on the 7th March 2000 and was released under the record label of Columbia. It has been deemed as one of the pioneer songs of the urban gospel music genre.

The song did really well in the charts and went into the top 5 in Australia (2), Denmark (4), Hungary (2), Netherlands (4), Norway (5), Poland (2) and the UK chart (5). It went into the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 28 and went into the number 1 spot in the UK R&B chart. The single has gained gold certification in Belgium, New Zealand, Sweden and the United Kingdom with Platinum status in Australia.

I remember that this track was played a lot when it was released and I could see why as it was really catchy. It had a really good beat to it and it was one of those songs that you could easily sing along to as well.
