Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Next Stop Olympus

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Our latest single was ‘To Bite The Hand That Feeds’ off our brand new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’, it was the third single off the EP, the first single was ‘The Ignorance Of u’s and the second was ‘My Affliction’. ‘To Bite The Hand That Feeds’ is a song about betrayal and the first song on the EP and the start of the story we tell of someones downfall over the course of the EP.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

Our first single we ever released was our track ‘Home’, there was a great sense of pride when we released the track because it was a really strong start for the band it’s still a lot fo peoples favourite track when they hear us even after two EPs.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

I think we’d all agree it’s probably ‘Don’t Let Go’ off our new EP because it’s something we’ve never really done before, it’s almost our version of a ballad and just very different to anything we’ve done before, just very big and atmospheric.

Your favourite song to play live:

Matt: Unfortunately we haven’t had a chance to play any of the new EP live yet because of the Covid situation but from what we have played live either ‘Hell To Bear’ because it was a lot more refined as a song from our first EP or ‘The Dirt’ because it’s got a lot of rock ’n’ roll vibes and about a night out with your mates so it gets everyone going for a great night out.

Conor: The Dirt is a song I love playing live because even people hearing it for the first time end up getting involved in the chorus.

Your most emotional track:

Matt: I’d have to go for ‘Don’t Let Go’ because you can really feel the emotion we put into that song throughout every part of the song or for me personally ‘My Affliction’ because they’re some of the most personal lyrics I’ve ever written.

Conor: Don’t Let Go is the most emotional one for me, the lyrics are a small insight into me going through some real life issues I think everyone can relate to.

The best lyric you have ever written:

Matt: For me I’d say it’s ‘well here I am, all alone, numbing the pain away’, I feel it’s just filled with emotion especially because of how Harry nailed singing it.

Conor: I’ve written quite a few lyrics that I really like but if I had to choose one from the songs we’ve released I would have to go with ‘Carry this weight alone, my back is wearing thin, life’s more than skin and bone, but I just feel so thin’ because I think it says a lot about the situation that the song Hell To Bear is about.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Matt: Just pure excitement, I love being on stage and can’t wait to start that first note.

Conor: I just can’t wait to get started, playing live is the payoff for all the work that goes on behind the scenes.

The hardest track to play live:

Matt: It’s difficult to say for me really because we practice them so much before we play them live that they’re almost second nature by that point but I guess any songs where I have vocals in can be bit tricky at times because I’ll get bit panicky about trying to nail both what I’m playing and the vocals that I can overthink stuff.

Conor: The Ignorance Of Us will be for sure, like an idiot when writing the vocal pattern for the first verse I didn’t give myself many moments to actually breath!

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Matt: I can’t say I’ve really found anything yet because we haven’t done to many actually tours yet or if we have then we’ve had to do some stupid amount of travelling because of work so we’ve been lucky enough to stay in our own bed for the most part.

Conor: Headphones and when we start tours in which we don’t just drive home every night I think a few books will be essential.

Describe your fans in three words:

Matt: Rock ’n’ roll

Conor: Only The Best

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Matt: To the stage by Asking Alexandria, it’s just one of if not the best song ever written in my opinion.

Conor: Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles because its an absolute banger!

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

Well we’ve just released our brand new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ so we’ll just be pushing that as much as possible so please everyone go check it out! And we’ll be trying to play as many shows as we can now to push it as much as possible.
