Forgotten Songs! – This Week – 1 Thing

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them very rarely that they can create a sense of nostalgic for you, the listener. So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

1 Thing – Amerie

Today we are looking at a single that you may recognise from the Will Smith film Hitch as it was the only single to come from the soundtrack and is also used in the film. 1 Thing was a single released by R&B singer Amerie on the 5th January 2005. The song was written by Amerie Rogers, Rich Harrison and Stanley Walden and was released under the record label of Columbia. The single was off of the second album by the musician that was called Touch. The track also has samples of the 1970’s song by The Meter’s called Oh, Calcutta!

The song was nominated for many awards including Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 2006 Grammy Awards, the Rolling Stones also ranked it as the number one single for the best summer in 2005. The track did really well and went into the top 10 in many countries including Belgium (5), Finland (5), Ireland (6) and Denmark (9). The single went to number 1 in the UK R&B chart and the US Hot R&B chart as well.

I always liked this song, it was a really catchy song and had a really fun beat to it. It was one of those songs that was really uplifting and catchy to listen to. I really like this song in Hitch and it is placed in the perfect place in the film.
