Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
My latest single is called “Nerve,” it is off of my new EP “Blissful Madness.” When I write songs I want them to be universal and relatable, but also stay true to myself and my experiences, which in the end is just the human experience. I like taking bad situations and turning them into positive or empowering moments. “Nerve” points to a failed relationship and the impact that that person had on you. Sometimes they leave you as a better person, but in this case, you came to a realization that you didn’t like who you became, and the fact that now that it’s over, they’re crawling back for a second chance, as if nothing happened. Ultimately, you’re better off and stronger for it, and standing up for your own worth.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
My first single was “Unfortunate Love” and it was such an exciting feeling having my music out in the world for the first time. It was even more exciting when it began playing on national radio. It definitely changed the direction of my career.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
My favourite song that I’ve created would have to be “Forecast” from my 2018 “Distant Danger” album. If I’m honest, it felt like I finally got “Nuela Charles” right.
Your favourite song to play live:
My favourite song to play live would be “Long Way Down”– it has this epic stomp and clamp chain-gang feel, that’s just super explosive on stage, and definitely has the crowd engaging, even if they’ve never heard it before.
Your most emotional track:
My most emotional track is “Love me like that.” Sometimes if I get too into the lyrics I’ll start tearing up during the performance. It’s a real reflection, and it assures me that at the end of the day I’m going to love myself no matter what. That’s what’s most important.
The best lyric you have ever written:
“There’s a blessing in the river that you’re only gonna find, when you’ve been to the bottom, you can talk about the climb.” That is from my song “Long Way Down.”
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
It’s definitely an electric feeling. Everything else gets pushed to the side, and I’m just living in the moment. It’s crazy thinking that people are there to listen to songs you’ve written.
The hardest track to play live:
Hands down that’s “Melt!” LOL I don’t even know how I saw it for the recording, let alone try to see it live. I think I’ve only done it twice. It usually ends up getting scrapped last minute, because I just psych myself out.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
The first thing I always have is my Herschel Backpack that is like a black hole, and fits almost everything I need.
I always bring my:
– Plunge Audio In-Ear Monitors
– My own microphone, currently a Shure KSM-8
– Makeup kit
– Stage clothes, usually something with sequins that sparkles.
– and stage boots.
If I only had these things – I’d be set.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:
This year I’ll be spending a lot of time writing new music and preparing for a new release next year. It’s exciting to know that things will be opening up again and I’m looking forward to being able to share new music on stages again!
