Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Aibai

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Glow is the latest single I have released. It is the first single off my self-titled debut EP. When I was writing the song I knew I had wanted to make an EP and that it would be the first one I released. I had envisioned the EP to have an indie/electronic feel to it so I started listening to some of my favorite electronic artists and indie artists for inspiration. I use a lot of atmospheric sounds to create a soundscape which makes the listener feel as if they are outside in nature. I was hoping to have someone with an indie voice sing on it, so I reached out to one of my old coworkers who was the bass player in the band Early Eyes. He told me it was the first song about love that he had written about since being out of his relationship.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

The first single I released is called Open Minds. I felt super proud of myself and excited for the future. I had been making bootleg remixes up until that first release so it was great to finally put something out that was 100% mine.

Your most emotional track:

Imagery is the most emotional track so far. I worked with Colby Hansen on this one. She did an amazing job with the vocals and lyrics. The lyrics are about the heartbreak of not being with someone you loved and wishing you still had them. The relatable lyrics, the catchy melody, the genuine emotion you can hear in her voice, and the music combined,  creates a powerful feeling and makes for a very emotional track.

Describe your fans in three words:

Outgoing, positive and in their 20 somethings.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

I wish I wrote Meridian by Odesza. The song takes you to another world. The energy of the song is so powerful and emotional and I love what they did with the vocal sample in the song. The percussive elements combined with the cinematic synths and pads create an atmosphere like none else.

What we can look forward to from you this year:

My self-titled debut EP will be coming out soon! After that I plan on starting my first album. Hopefully covid will get under control and live shows will start happening again in the US. I would love to play my EP live once it is safe again!
