Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Asher Knight

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

“Alone” is my latest single, it talks about the feeling of loneliness and not feeling worthy of love. For a long time, I didn’t feel I could ever be loved but eventually I realized I was worthy of love and that I was loved.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

“Step Back” was my first single which gave me the chance to work with Red Triangle and Mark Owen from Take That. It was so exciting being able to finally release my own music and be able to share with everyone a part of who I am as a person through the song.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

“The Night Belongs to You” is one of my favorites from my last EP. It’s energetic and fun but also filled with love and happiness.

Your favourite song to play live:

When I perform, I always add in dance as it’s something I love. “Step Back” is a rather big dance which makes it enjoyable to play live.

Your most emotional track:

That’s really hard to decide but I would say “Save Me From Myself”, it’s an extremely powerful song for me. When I left school, I thought I was worthless and not good enough, I continuously put myself down and eventually I had to help myself combat those feelings.

The best lyric you have ever written:

“Just give me a sign, something to make me feel ok” is I think one of the best lyrics I have written. I have spent lots of time in my life sitting down and asked for a sign, something to show me that I’m loved or to show that I am a good enough person. It truly reveals me as a person and when I left the session after writing “Alone” I was so happy I could reveal that part of myself.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It’s impossible to fully describe but the word I was used for going on stage is Home, it’s where I felt myself most. I feel nervous before going on stage all the time but the minute I walk out all that disappears, and I feel like I am finally back home.

The hardest track to play live:

I think “Step Back” has to be the hardest due to the dancing, it’s a big vocal and then also a big dance so combining the two is difficult, but I always feel as if I have accomplished something by the end of the song as it’s not easy.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

My laptop is one of the most important things for me on tour, it helps me relax after shows by being able to watch tv shows or films.

I have a bunch of books I always take on tour, I love to read so being able to take some on tour is great, but sometimes I feel too tired to read sadly but usually in the mornings in the hotel I will spend an hour or so reading.

Describe your fans in three words:

Incredible, inspiring and loving

They have been so supportive of my music and that inspires me every day to carry on.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Every song I love is one I wish I had written but the one that sticks out is “Mercy” by Shawn Mendes, just an amazing song that is emotional and powerful.

What we can look forward to from you this year:

This year I am panning on releasing more music leading up to my new EP. I am very excited to share with everyone new music and hopefully soon be able to go back on tour.
