Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Ebony Buckle

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

I wrote Wonder initially as a poem. It is inspired by the story of the 52hz Whale, who was discovered in the 80s calling at a frequency of 52hz which is higher than any other whale. Scientists believed it may not be able to be heard by other whale species. This idea broke my heart. But in our song, I decided to make the whale an explorer. An inter-dimensional traveller who has lost contact with her home planet and is floating through the universe discovering its wonder. My husband Nick Burns produced the song and the music video was created and animated by Luke Taylor. We finished it last year and we are so proud and excited to finally have it out in the world

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

My first single I released was Dark Place. It was nerve-wracking but actually so exhilarating to have shared something that I had made.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

Wonder is the first track of our upcoming album Disco Lasers. It’s definitely one of my favourites. I’m going to be releasing all of the tracks as singles every month this year!

Your favourite song to play live:

I would say it’s You’re Loved. It’s really uplifting and my partner Nick sings a really powerful solo in it at the end. We released You’re Loved at the end of 2020.

Your most emotional track:

Personally I think it is Ghost, which came out last year. It’s about when my marriage visa was refused and I was separated from my Husband for nearly 2 years. We released the song last year and it was very scary putting such a vulnerable song out there. I’m glad I did it though, it felt like I way of letting go.

The best lyric you have ever written:

Hmmm…I think it would have to be “skin will turn to wings if you let it” which is from a song coming out this year…Disco Lasers!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Nerves but the kind that help you perform, impatience, worry that I’ll forget my own lyrics. I find it helps to try to stay calm and still just before I go on so that my energy isn’t all over the place.

The hardest track to play live:

I have a song called Thank you, Goodbye which is really emotional and so sometimes that is tough!

Describe your fans in three words:

Creative, Empathetic, Lovely

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Starman by David Bowie

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

We have an album coming out! We will be releasing the songs one at a time on the first of every month. I’m also building up a community on Patreon and the album is being funded by my incredible patrons.
