In the Games Corner – MEMORY CARD EDITION – The Tamagotchi

Welcome to a new sister article to In The Games Corner that is about computer games but with a different spin. I have been playing computer games from a very young age and I find that some games when I think of them are attached to very strong memories. So, I thought it would be fun to share memories that I have attached to some of these games as there are a few. I wanted to call this feature Memory Card because a lot of my memories that i have strongly are around the Playstation 1 and there will be a few around that particular card. Today we take a look at Tamagotchi.

When I was a kid, there was a small tiny plastic digital screen that was insanely popular and was such a big craze that they even got banned in schools – Welcome to the world of Tamagotchi. Back in the mid to late nineties the Tamagotchi was introduced to the world. The idea behind it was that it was a little digital pet that you had to play with, feed, clean and love to make sure that it kept alive.

The toy was huge, every kid wanted one and they were one of the biggest Christmas presents of that year. I had a dinosaur one it looked like a cracked egg the case and I loved it, I even cried when I was given it at Christmas as I was so greatful.

It was such a simple ideology for a game but like everyone my age I became addicted and always wanted to play and feed it but the thing with the Tamagotchi is that it slept a lot and had a habit of dying when you were asleep or couldn’t give it attention.

I think another thing that is interesting to point out is that they were so popular that schools had to ban children from actually taking them to school. Although in our year we were in a hut and we used to hide them in our pockets of our coats and sneak out when we could to feed them.
