Forgotten Songs!

Forgotten Songs! – This Week – Big Big World

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them very rarely that they can create a sense of nostalgic for you, the listener. So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

Big Big World – Emilia Rydberg

Today we look at a song that was released in 1998 by the Swedish singer Emilia that did really well in Europe and the UK. Big Big World was released in the 17th November 1998, it was written by Emilia Rydberg and Lasse Anderson. The track was released under the record label of Universal and produced by Hurb, TBT and Günter “Yogi” Lauke.

The song is about the cautious steps towards independence and adulthood and how to deal with issues that you can be faced with. The song was really successful in Europe and went into the number 1 spot in eight countries – Austria, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. In the UK it was really successful and sold over 200,00 copies and went into the chart at number 5.

When this song was released I was a kid and I wasn’t really a fan I found that the song was very different to the style I was listening to back then and I found the song annoying as the chorus was really repetitive. Listening to it now I can appreciate the song more even though I am still not a fan I can understand why it was so popular as that chorus especially gets stuck in your head.
