Welcome to a brand new feature that will be published every other week. I go to a lot of gigs and there are always little stories that come out of them that I always want to tell someone so what better place to do it!
Todays Gig: You Me At Six
I have always liked You Me At Six but the time I really got listening to them was at University. When they were coming to town to play I wanted to go and see them – and so did my friends. One of them was a bigger fan then me and we all clubbed together to buy them a ticket for their birthday and the plan was we would all go together.
It was the first time we had all been a gig together, I went to a lot of gigs usually with different friends, depending on who liked what music but I had never been to one with so many people so I was excited.
That excitement was very much short lived I was looking forward to the band coming on stage and having lots of fun but my mates had other plans. Angry Birds had just hit it’s peak, it was the point where people were playing it constantly and becoming addicted. I understand it was a fun game but what I didn’t understand is why 6 people would pay to go and see a band they wanted to see and then to sit at the back of the hall on a random table they found and spend the whole gig playing Angry Birds instead of watching or taking part in the concert. To this day I still do not get it.
I didn’t join in with the gaming, I was really fed up – the one time I had a ‘party’ of people with me at a gig and they were not interested even when it was their idea to come. I left them and went straight to near the front of the mosh pit and had a great time by myself.
People always ask me why I tend to go to gigs a lot of the time by myself- well it is experiences like this that have persuaded me to.
