Ones To Watch in 2021 – INTERVIEW – The Trusted

Welcome to 2021 and all this month we are celebrating acts, websites, content, musicians and everything in between that you should be looking out for this year! Today we talk to a band from Southend-On-Sea who are set to release new music this year – The Trusted.

Hello guys tell us three fun facts all about your band?

1/ We’re from a town called Southend in Essex

2/ Two members of the band are related

3/ The first song we ever played together was ‘Reptilia’ by The Strokes

How did your band form?

We came together in around the middle of 2016. Dale (guitarist) and I, had been working together in a few bands previously and basically wanted to start a fresh. We snapped up my brother (Fin-bass), met Dave (Drums) over a Facebook advert and basically got together in a rehearsal room to see if it would work. From the word go, it felt special and here we are, four years later, and it still feels special.

Since that first rehearsal, we’ve basically become four brothers. I know that sounds cliché but I can’t really think of a better way to describe it haha.

What was the inspiration for the bands name?

We took it from a Nick Lowe song called ‘Peace, Love and Understanding.’ There is line that goes ‘So where are the strong and who are the trusted?’ We heard that and thought ‘The Trusted could really work. Once we realised it was taken, we snapped it up.

What are your plans as a band for 2021?

We are currently sitting on loads of cool music, so I think the main thing is to just to get it all out there. The world is still very much up in the air, so for us, the goal is to keep evolving and growing.

Are you planning to tour at all this year ?

We would love to!  We love playing live and we love touring. It all just depends on how things play out in terms of the situation surrounding Covid.

What other bands do you find inspiring?

It depends on who you ask in the band. For me, I find bands like, R.E.M, Radiohead, Talking Heads, U2, Coldplay, The 1975 and The Who really inspiring. I find it really fascinating when a band can take their music to that level of acclaim.

What is your favourite song to perform live?

Ooo, that’s a tough question. I know this is probably an ‘annoying’ answer, but it changes every time we play haha. For us, our favourite song is normally the song that has the biggest impact on the audience, the song that lifts the room.

We haven’t actually played ‘Criminals’ live yet but I’ve got a feeling that it might become my favourite live song.

What is the most challenging?

For us, its reaching people. The Internet is a beautiful thing but it’s also incredibly noisy. Cutting through all the noise is definitely the most challenging obstacle.

What styles do you hope to see more of in music this year?

Every year, we see artists and bands, ‘fusing’ genres more and more and we find that really exciting. We’re hoping people keep doing this.

Also, we wanna see more guitar music but I think that’s because, we’re a guitar band,

Do you have any new years resolutions? If so what are they?

I think, to try and enjoy stuff a bit more. We are very hard on ourselves. We always want to be the best, we can be. Because of this, sometimes we miss out on the joy. Being in a band with great people is incredible and I occasionally need to be reminded of this

Are you on social media? If so how can people find out more about you?

One of the perks of being, the only band called ‘The Trusted,’ is the fact we are really easy to find haha. Our Instagram is @TheTrusted_ and on twitter you can find us by searching ‘TheTrustedband.’

We’ve also got a Tiktok (@thetrusted_) but we don’t know how we feel about that…

Three words why people should listen to you this year?

‘We have soul’

Who are your ones to watch for 2021?

I’ve got my eye on APRE and Talk Show. Two great bands who I think will both blow up next year. I’m hoping 2021 will be the year of ‘the band.’

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

I had a fried mars bar on a stick once. It was literally the worst thing. It felt like death on stick

If you could trade lives with anyone for a day who would it be and why?

Probably Dale, so I can feel what it’s like to be able to play guitar properly

Your favourite lyric?

When I was all messed up and I had opera in my head, your love was a light bulb, hanging over my bed – Ultraviolet (light My Way) by U2

What is the most delightful word you can think of?

Vellichor- It’s a relatively new word. I love the sound of it.

What is your favourite movie quote?

You can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead – Stan Laurel (Brats, 1930)

Who is your favourite cartoon character and why?

There’s this really old Bug Bunny episode that features this little green, ‘Boris Karloff’ inspired mad scientist character. I can’t remember his name, but I’ve got him stuck in my head.
