Ones To Watch in 2021 – INTERVIEW – Sam and Sounds

Welcome to 2021 and all this month we are celebrating acts, websites, content, musicians and everything in between that you should be looking out for this year! Today we talk to a musician that actually started his music career in Lockdown so is yet to play his debut show which will hopefully be early this year! I spoke to Sam and Sounds to find out all about this year and what he has planned.

Hello Sam tell us three fun facts all about yourself?

Hey! Thanks for having me!

1. I only started my solo career during lockdown, so I’ve never played a live show of my own yet.

2.I carried on making music over lockdown as me and my producer did FaceTime studio sessions!

And 3. and this is a weird one but who cares – I’ve got 4 nipples! Haha

How did you get into music?

I’ve always played piano and sang in the car and stuff, but when I was 17 I had the opportunity of playing in front of the whole school which was about 800 people or something and it was then that I decided that music was what I wanted to do for my career!

What has been your favourite song so far?

I’d say either Cloud 9 or In Time, She’s Mine! If you’re talking about any song written though, I’ve got a bunch of tunes that I haven’t released yet which are my favourite out of them all! I can’t wait to release it!!

What are your plans for 2021?

My biggest hope is that life goes back to normal from COVID. It’s been weird launching a career without doing live shows or anything, and I really hope that I can get into it this year.

Are you planning to tour at all this year ?

It would be a dream to tour this year. It’s defo something I’m aiming for and going to put some rough plans in place and see how things go. It’s super cool that it’s even a prospect, as I didn’t expect things to happen so quickly!

What other bands or musicians do you find inspiring?

The 1975, Two Door Cinema Club, The Aces, Declan McKenna, Kawala and Kwassa

What styles do you hope to see more of in music this year?

More instrumental stuff happening. I’m a huge fan of band style and using live instruments as the main feature of songs.

Do you have any new year’s resolutions? If so what are they?

Defo. I need to exercise more, and stop using my phone so much. I already leave my phone downstairs when I go to bed and I try to finish whatever I’m doing by 9pm and at that time, just go and get ready for bed. But I’d definitely like to get better at it!

Are you on social media? If so, how can people find out more about you?

Yeah! I’m super active on Instagram and Facebook mainly, which you can find me by typing in @sam_and_sounds.

Three words why people should listen to you this year?

Proper banging tunes.

Who are your ones to watch for 2021?

Holly Humberstone and Alfie Templeman will blow up I think!

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Frogs legs probably. Still can’t wrap my head around that.

If you could trade lives with anyone for a day who would it be and why?

One of my fans. I’d want to figure out what I’m doing that is good and what fans want that I’m not doing. I’d be able to give my fans more of what they want!

Your favourite lyric?

When Eminem said ‘Ah summa lumma dumma lumma’, I felt that.

What is the most delightful word you can think of?

Favourite song by another musician?

Ticket to Ride by Kawala

What is your favourite movie quote?

‘Hey, I’m gonna give you to the count of ten, to get your ugly, yella, no-good keister off my property, before I pump your guts full of lead!’ From Home Alone. Every Christmas I watch it about 5 times.

Who is your favourite cartoon character and why?

Patrick Star from Spongebob will never not make me laugh
