Off The Record – ALBUM FOCUS – CMFT, Corey Taylor

Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first!  Today we look at the new solo album by the Slipknot Frontman Corey Taylor – CMFT

HWY666

This is Corey’s first solo album and the first track on it blasts into your ears and welcomes you to a really intense listening experience. It opens with really heavy guitar rifts that lead into this really great guitar solo. The song is a really good rock song it is full of bold guitar decisions and punchy drums. If you went into this album not knowing he was from Slipknot, you still would not know as it is a very different sound from that band but it is also a very great style for him.

Samantha’s Gone

This song is upbeat and really catchy right from the start as the guitar rifts are the star of the show. Even though it is a rock song the undertones echo the genre of country which make it a very unique song. You know when you hear a track and you think this will make a great driving song – well this is one of those songs. The guitar solos yet again really are exquisite and show you the talented musician that Corey Taylor is.

Silverfish

This song starts with an acoustic style of guitar that is intertwining between the lyrics to create this really emotional sound to the lyrcs and the melody. It is a really interesting song because at times the vocals and the music are are in different notes and keys which creates this off flat and sharp sound which is really unique.

Home

This song is vey different to all the tracks before it as it is not on the guitar and is on the piano and this automatically makes it really emotional. You can hear the heart and soul that has gone into this song when you listen to it as the lyrics are powerful and the tone of the track is so different to the rest of the album. A very lovely song.
