This month we are travelling all the way (well metaphorically) to Amsterdam to learn all about the improv scene there! All months we will be chatting to easylaughs that offer comedy shows, improv and stand up classes and improv workshops, in English. Throughout out the month we are talking to each member of the team to find out more about them.

Player Profile: Ben
Hello Ben how long have you been improvising?
15+ years
How did you get into improv?
I used to write and perform sketch comedy shows with a couple of friends. Many people would comment that when we left the script and started improvising it was far funnier. I’m not sure what that says about our scripted material.
What is your favourite style of improv and why?
I like funny improv best, because I laugh
Who are your top 5 favourite improvisers and why?
Oh my God, these questions are hard.
I would put Tim Orr on the list, because I had the benefit of his training at a very formative moment in my improv journey and he made a substantial impact
I love being around Joe Bill.
I include Stacey Smith because she’s not only brilliantly talented but also a delightful person
For my final two I would choose any two players from my own team, easylaughs. They are all right up there with the best in the world.
What is your favourite warm-up game?
Not really a game but I love to stretch!
Favourite short-form game?
I have no favourites.
What are the three top tips anyone has ever taught you in improv?
Keep going.
Have fun.
Shower.
What are some of your favourite new acts you have come across this year and why?
You have chosen the wrong year to ask about acts I have seen.
I would recommend coming to IMPRO Amsterdam, its in January of each year and is a great place to see new (and less new) acts
How would you describe your personal sort of improv?
I prefer to leave that to other people to determine
