Celebrating Comediasians Month – INTERVIEW – Whales, Secluded Islands and The Cookie Monster…

All this month we are celebrating the improv troupe Comediasians. There is fifteen members of the team (and ever increasing) so we thought it was the perfect time to sit down with the troupe and find out all about them and the shows they have been performing and what they have in store for the future. This week we have a good ole fashioned quick fire questions round.

If you could be any animal what would it be and why?

Bruce: Whale, you get to see all the creepy stuff underwater.

Kelsey:  Owl or bat.  It would help with my nocturnal tendencies.

Nikita: Tiger, to finally catch up on all my sleep.

Yiannis: Sloth. I am always tired.

Vanessa: Probably dog. It’s basic but they do have it good. My one is snoring in the background.

Who is your favorite superhero and why?

Bruce: All Might, plus Ultra.

Kelsey:  Captain Planet, he’s our hero!  Gonna take pollution down to zero!

Nikita: Spiderman, It’s the first one who came to mind, I don’t know many superheroes, it’s tragic.

Vanessa: Ruby Rose’s Batwoman! She’s learning on the job and has real relationships with family and love interests.

If a movie was made of your life what genre would it be, who would play you?

Bruce: it better be filmed as sexy as Wong Kar Wei’s “In the Mood for Love”.

Kelsey:  Rom com starring some deliciously-fresh, ethnically-ambiguous newcomer.  Pretty sure it’s gonna be some B list Netflix original – big names make cameo appearances.

Vanessa: it would be a straight to dvd romcom and I wouldn’t even be the star of my own movie! Haha!

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

Bruce: I watched Porco Rosso the other day, he lives on a secluded island with a beach only accessible through a cave. There!

Kelsey:  At the moment, anywhere with a beach, clear water and constantly good weather.  Could hang out on Bruce’s island…

Vanessa: I really want to go back to New Zealand! I went in 2013 and I absolutely loved it. It’s a beautiful country, so clean, and the sushi was the best I’d ever had.

What would you do with your “15 minutes” of fame?

Bruce: Release a pop single about butts or something.

Kelsey:  Smash the patriarchy!

Nikita: Yes Kelsey!

Vanessa: Panic.

Juwel: Raise class consciousness and call liberals on their bullshit.

What is one item you could NEVER live without?

Bruce: Headphones.

Kelsey:  My dignity.  Oh, wait….

Nikita: You can’t live without humour

Vanessa: I wouldn’t have said this last year, but plants! It’s nice to have something to look after. They’re like my babies.

Last time you laughed very hard out loud?

Bruce: can I say when they tore down the statue in Bristol? That did genuinely get an audible laugh from me.

Kelsey:  So we had this deep philosophical chat about gherkins and pickled cucumbers during our tech rehearsal today…

Juwel: On Wednesday evenings the cast of The Hero’s Journey (improvised high-fantasy narratives) get together to play D&D and other TTRPGs. Recently Gemma ran a game for us that was a parody of RuPaul’s Drag Race, that whole evening was a riot. Fucking hell, why has no one ever done Cookie Monster in Snatch Game?! Shout out to our own Duncan Wrigley for that treat.

What is your favorite movie quote?

Bruce: There’s not enough space for all the rom-com closing speeches here, let’s say “you had me at the wrinkle in your nose when you’re just a girl standing in front of a boy”.

Kelsey:  “Yes, I lied to you.  No, I don’t love you.  Of course it makes you look fat.  I’ve never been to Brussels.  It is pronounced ‘egregious.’  By the way, no, I’ve never actually met Pizarro, but I love his pies.  And all of this pales to utter insignificance in light of the fact that my ship is once again gone.  Savvy?”

Juwel: That song in Mulan.
