PLAYER PROFILE – ANDY

Player Name: Andy “The Destroyer” Rouse

How long have you been improvising?

I honestly can’t really remember. At least 6/7 years, I think? Long enough to have accidentally forgotten some of the basics and need a proper refresher.

How did you get into improv?
It was a new year’s resolution, and one of the few that actually stuck.

What is your favourite style of improv and why?
To watch – really joyful twoprov where they really get each other. To do – Musical improv, because I can’t sing, but think I can.

Who are your top 5 favourite improvisers and why?
Too many to name and I know I will miss names out. If you’re a performer and I’ve told you that you’re great, then you. If you’re a performer and I haven’t told you, it’s equally likely that I was shy and a bit awestruck.

What is your favourite warm up game?
Hey Fred Schneider, hands down. Rosie will kill me for not saying Dutch Clapping, though. So, uh, Dutch Clapping?

Favourite short form game?
I love watching Party Quirks, but being the host stresses me out. Much like my actual parties.

What are the three top tips anyone has ever taught you in improv?
Commit long enough and it will make sense. Silence isn’t a problem. Ground it before going mad. But sometimes also go mad. Things we learn are tools, not rules.

In no more than 5 words, what advice would you give them?
I’d say these back at them, but in a horror funhouse-style squeaky voice

How would you describe your personal sort of improv?
Better than you were expecting, but not as good as you’d been hoping.

Describe each Swipe Right member in one word:
Carly : Heart. Rosie : Wind. Robin: Earth. By their powers combined, I am Captain Planet.
