Forgotten Songs!

Forgotten Songs! – This Week – Last One Standing

There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them on cheesy countdowns run by music channels over Christmas if you are lucky.

So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.

Last One Standing – Girl Thing

Simon Cowell turned down the opportunity to manage The Spice Girls, this lead to the formation of his own girl band which ended up being called Girl Thing. Last One Standing was the groups debut single and it was released on the 19th June 2000.

The song was written by Girl Thing, George Eliot Kennedy, Mike Percy and Tim Lever. It was released under the record label of RCA. The song was the groups only top 10 in the UK and it peaked at number 8. It went into the top 20 in Australia, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands. The record company was apparently expecting it to do really well and go to number 1 because they spent a lot of money on the campaign including an appearance by the group at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

I remember this song, I cant remember how I came across it but I do remember it always being on the music channels. It had a really catchy chorus and if you asked me to sing it I could. I remember the verses had a lot of words that has a sense of Spice Girls Wannabe.
