Last time I visited New Plymouth and Mt Taranaki it was covered in clouds and mystery. I still had an amazing time and made some lifelong friends but I was yet to see the mysterious mountain. The reason i drove all this way!
Jump forward almost a year and I’m back! this time on my way up to Auckland instead of down and I managed to catch the mountain in all it’s glory! From the moment I saw it from my car I couldn’t take my eyes off it!
I had wanted to visit Pouakai Tarns for a very long term. Ever since I saw my first picture of the mountain and the tarns and even more so when some of my friends posted pictures from this exact spot on social media. I was very jealous and knew that one day I would have to get a similar picture. Unfortunately the conditions weren’t ideal. The tarn was a little low and the wind a little high but I still enjoyed capturing this majestic mountain and eating my sandwiches in it’s shadow.
I think I will have to make another trip back to this famous mountain. Both to climb to its peak and to take another picture at the tarn. Fingers crossed I will get to see it again.
