Welcome to a brand new feature that is going to run for this month – this April we are going to celebrate the world of Books! The last few weeks and months we have all been part of a weird world to say the least so this month we thought it would be nice to talk about something that allows you to escape even if it just for a chapter at a time. So this month we are taking on the 30 Day Book Challenge and looking at a different topic each day, enjoy!
Day 26: A Book That Changed Your Opinion About Something
NAME OF BOOK: Mud, Sweat and Tears, Bear Grylls
I couldn’t stand Bear Grylls a few years back, I found that he was everywhere on TV and wondered if he was just saying and doing things for the fame. One day I saw his autobiography was 99p on the Kindle store (I bet you have know seen a pattern about how I find books) and thought, ok, I will give Bear the benefit of the doubt and read this book.
I went into it not really expecting alot, as I didn’t have the greatest opinion of Bear but this book completely and utterly changed my opinion on him as well as lead to him becoming one of my heroes.
Bears backstory, a really interesting and this story goes in depth about his time in the SAS and when he broke his back. When he broke his back he gets told he may not be able to walk or do anything active or even jump out of a plane again – well look at him now! It is such an inspiring part of the book and really uplifting.
The thing I love about this book is he stories about his adventures and expeditions on sea, in ice and around the world. It is a nail biter the whole way through and it really keeps you gripped.
I feel so bad that I had such a negative opinion about Bear and when I come across people saying the same thing about hims now that he is ‘fake ‘ and that it is all for a show it really bothers me. I used to be like that and I cannot believe how Naive I was, yes his shows may be a bit staged but how else do you make Television?
This book completely changed my perspective on Bear Grylls and it lead to him being one of my heroes as I found him really inspiring. Back in 2018, I was so lucky to meet him at work and due to a mixture of tiredness and being star stuck I couldn’t tie two words together and he kept asking me if I was ok so I must of been a mess hah! Anyway yeah, read this book…
