Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first! Today we look at the second album by ex One Directioner Niall Horan – Heartbreak Weather
Heartbreak Weather
This intro song surprised me as its quite poppy and I wasn’t really expecting this from Niall as I know he is a keen guitarist. It has elements of the eighties sort of to it and the way the guitars are playing they are creating a jingle that is reminiscent of this. It is quite a jolly song and One Direction fans will like this song as it has an essence of the last album.
Black and White
This song has a real Ed Sheeran feel to it whilst also having its own Niall twist. The lyrics are interesting to listen to on this track, they are very pop themed but they intertwine very well with the acoustic melodies evident throughout.
Small Talk
This is one of the slower tracks on the album, and has a real electronic feel to it. I know its bad to compare but most of the Directioners solo music has a song that has this sort of composition and it reminds me of songs I have heard from Liam, Zayne and Harry. That is not a bad thing as Niall has made this song his own and it’s very individual with a catchy chorus.
Put A Little Love On Me
This song is very pretty and it’s all because it relies in beautiful piano melodies. The fact that it does means that it creates emotions in the right parts. My favourite sections of this song is when it intertwine in and out of the flat notes, it doesn’t happen that often and that is good as you really notice it when It happens which amps the emotion of this love song. The strings also are a great accompanliment.
Still
There are a lot of songs on the debut album but they all wind up with thi acoustic song. This is the sort of sound that i expected for the whole album as it is what I have only experienced so far of his solo work. However, saying that Inow I have listened to it I am glad he hasn’t as people would compare it all to ed sheeran and whilst I have on one song that is not true of the whole album. It is definitely an album that is easy to listen to and it is interesting to see how different it is from the other guys.
