Welcome to a brand new feature that is going to run for this month – this April we are going to celebrate the world of Books! The last few weeks and months we have all been part of a weird world to say the least so this month we thought it would be nice to talk about something that allows you to escape even if it just for a chapter at a time. So this month we are taking on the 30 Day Book Challenge and looking at a different topic each day, enjoy!

Day 11: A Book You Hated
NAME OF BOOK:  The Accidental Adventurer, Ben Fogle

ben fI read a lot of facutal adventure books and I am a huge fan of books by authors such as Ranulph Fiennes and Beay Grylls, I love the thrill and stories that come with them. I am particularly a huge fan of journeys that happen in either the Arctic or Antarctica. I came across this book on the 99p Kindle sale and from reading the synopsis and his reputation that Ben Fogle seems to have as an ‘adventurer’ I thought that it made sense to read it, expecting it to be similar to other ones that I have read by others.

Right from a few chapters in on this book, it made me so angry, the first time Ben mentioned he went on an adventure in a dangerous location and he just winged it by taking silly risks and I thought that this was a one off because he was young.  The I started to notice a pattern and it started to make me so mad that this was happening more then once. Ranulph and Bear make it clear and say over and over again the importance of being safe and preparing for an adventure. I found with this book Ben doesn’t do this alot and sometimes puts himself or others in danger.

Everything from not wearing the right clothing to taking silly risks really irritates me because it is a really ignorant and a bad portrayal to put out to readers. The whole book feels like an ‘oh well’ sort of attitude and it is really poor and it is not good. Putting the word ‘accidental’ in the title of your book is not a good enough excuse to use for all these reasons.

This book has completely put me off of Ben Fogle and I won’t be reading anymore of his books. People say Bear is fake, I tell you what read his books then tell me what your opinion is.
