Welcome to a brand new feature that is going to run for this month – this April we are going to celebrate the world of Books! The last few weeks and months we have all been part of a weird world to say the least so this month we thought it would be nice to talk about something that allows you to escape even if it just for a chapter at a time. So this month we are taking on the 30 Day Book Challenge and looking at a different topic each day, enjoy!

30 day book challenge

Day 7: Most Underrated Book
NAME OF BOOK:  The Vesuvius Club, Mark Gatiss

vesI first came across this book in a charity shop, I saw the name Mark Gatiss and it immediately popped out to me because he is a fantastic writer and the fact that he had written books fascinated me. I read the synopsis of this book and I wasn’t sure whether I should read it as it was a spy based novel. I knew that he was a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes and I was nervous that it would be a rip off version of the stories as he has also been part of the television show – boy was I wrong.

It got to a point months later that I had run out of books to read and came across it on the Kindle store that I felt it was time to read it. The Vesuvius Club follows a spy called Lucifer Fox and this is the first book in the series. The story follows Lucifer as he tries to solve a murder case that leads him to Italy. with great twists and turns along the way.

It really is a great book, it is so well written and I cannot believe that I was worried about how Mark would depict this character. It is so different to Sherlock Holmes, it is unique and it is very clever and I wish I had bought a physical copy of it when I saw it. I also wish that I had come across this set of books a lot earlier.

I feel that this book is truly underrated and I cannot wait to read it again at some point. There is still one book I need to read in this series and I have deliberately not read it yet because I know that once I read that book it will be the end of the series.

  1. I lived your summing up if this book – almost tempted to purchase it on kindle. At very least scour the charity shops for it when they reopen! 😉
