Welcome to a brand new feature that is going to run for this month – this April we are going to celebrate the world of Books! The last few weeks and months we have all been part of a weird world to say the least so this month we thought it would be nice to talk about something that allows you to escape even if it just for a chapter at a time. So this month we are taking on the 30 Day Book Challenge and looking at a different topic each day, enjoy!
Day 3 – Your Favourite Series
NAME OF BOOK SERIES: Harry Potter, J.K Rowling
When thinking about what series to write about there was no competition really because lets be honest there is no book series that is like Harry Potter. A book series that both adults and children love and when you start reading them you cannot stop. OK, I say that and I know people will disagree with me but to me I think it is great and when it first came out I didn’t actually think this…
It was Primary school and I can remember the exact moment I was introduced to the world of Harry Potter. In Year 4 we had our lessons in a sort of hut and where you entered there was a red basket filled with books and you had to always have a book out to read. Which for me wasn’t a huge problem as I loved reading, I guess we were going on our school holidays of some sort and Harry Potter 1 was not available so I took Chamber of Secrets. I remember vaguely thinking it would be ok to start one book in and I will understand it… i didn’t. I know that this was the first time, I think I was about eight, that I read Harry Potter because a couple of my photographs I took with my camera in Malaga were of my teddy McCuddles and my small cuddly dog called Toffee and next to them on the bed is Chamber of Secrets. I don’t remember reading a lot of the book but I do remember I didn’t understand it.
It was a long time after that I visited Harry Potter again as I wasn’t a fan after that and I can’t remember why I started to read it again but I do remember there was now four books out and not just two. This time round I started with the first book and this time it reeled me in, this time I was reeled in and the rest was history.
I cannot not tell you how many times I have re-read this book series, everytime a new book was released I would read that book in a day (mum and I would buy two books so we could read it together at the same time) and then I would go back to the beginning and re-read them all again.
In 2018 I decided to re-read all the books again, it had been nearly a decade (ten years?! where did THAT go) since I had read them all in their entirety and I am so glad I did. They are so well written, they still keep you totally engaged and also make you realise that the films miss out a hell of a lot.
