This week why see one improv act when you can see three! In Nottingham this week, the Playhouse is hosting Miss Imps event Triple Decker featureing Denise’s 50th, Five Chubby Foxes and The Improclaimers. To celebrate the event being show of the week we have not one, not two but three interviews going out across the day so you get to know more about the acts that are perfoming, lets talk to Denise’s 50th

Hello, tell us all about who you all are and three unknown facts about your troupe!
Our name is Denise’s 50th and our three unknown facts are:
- We are officially in love having completed the New York Times’ list of 36 questions to make you fall in love with someone (during a long road trip to a show in Newcastle)
- Our favourite tipple is Adnams Bitter Drink (recurring fictitious beer, look out for it in our show)
- Our logo was designed by the incredibly talented friend of Denise @HeleneDollie – check her out because she’s amazing!
How did your troupe form?
We met during a Level Three class (which Liam was teaching) and hit it off. Brendan had the idea to form a group and we’ve not looked back since…
How did you come up with the name of your troupe? Was it difficult?
One early rehearsal, the room we’d booked out had previously hosted Denise’s 50th birthday the night before and was filled with leftover paraphernalia (including photos and balloons). We loved the name and Denise has become a person in her own right – she’s the sixth member of the group!
How did the show come about?
We wanted to do something that was emotionally driven and a little bit more longform than a lot of the other performances we’d seen.
How did you get into improv?
We all have a different story to tell – from travels to Australia to heartbreak. If you want to know more, come and ask us after the show!
Tell us a little bit about the show that is happening this week?
We’re really excited to be performing at Nottingham Playhouse – it’s a Nottingham institution and we can’t wait to get on stage. As part of the Triple Decker there are two other brilliant acts on – Five Chubby Foxes and Improclaimers – who also include two members of Denise’s 50th (Jack & Brendan). It’s a great bill and we can’t wait to be part of it!
What three things are you looking forward to about performing in this show?
- It’s an amazing venue that makes us sound fancy
- We’ll be playing alongside some of our favourite Nottingham acts
- This is our third show of 2020 and we think it’s going to be a corker…
It is the month of February! What is the best thing about performing on stage? What do you love about it, and why?
We always get told after our shows that you can tell we love playing together and are friends off stage. We enjoy spending time doing something we love, with people we love (and if it makes people laugh/cry/feel something even better!) It sounds soppy, but being on stage with each other is when we’re genuinely at our happiest. #soppy
It is a new decade – what would you like to see happen to improv in the next 10 years?
The artform gets a reputation for realism and emotion as much as absurdism and comedy.
How do you warm up before a show?
Our favourite warm up is an exercise called Pasta Face. You say the name of a well-loved or little-known pasta, accompanying with a face/action as you do so. This gets passed around the circle and gets bigger and bigger as we go.
We also make sure to tell each other that we love them right before we go on stage.
What have been some of the best suggestions that you have been given in a show and why?
Our show is inspired by a song and once, due to technical difficulties, we had to ask the audience to all start singing together!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
We’d love people to get in touch and to see our top quality #content. You can find us on:

We’re also on email (you simply have to be these days): email@example.com

And finally, in three words – why should people come and see the show?
Anything can happen.
