Ketchup is one of the world’s most famous and popular condiments so it only makes sense that companies will want to jump on board trying to mix it up and incorporate it into other products. The company that owns the most popular brand of Ketchup is Heinz with 60% of the ketchup market in the US and 80% in Europe ( according to an article on vex.com ) which makes sense why they want to invent new ideas.
In 2018, Heinz released a strand of brand new condiments and one of them was none other than ‘Mayochup’ – this new sauce was a hybrid of both mayonnaise and ketchup. Originally it came about as Helmans and Heinz went to war with each other releasing versions of each others popular products, Heinz released ‘Real Mayonnaise’ and Hellmans released ‘Real Ketchup’.
Heinz apparently saw a conversation on social media that the Middle East released a Mayochup and was creating a talking point in Europe and the brand wanted to be in on it and posted a photo of mayonnaise and ketchup together on Twitter saying if it got 500,000 votes for yes they would make it a reality. Whilst the sauce wasn’t invented by Heinz, the vote lead to their version of the product being made in the US.
The product has received many positive reviews because it is a good mix of mayonnaise and ketchup and is a delicious option to have. The negative reviews and comments say the texture of the sauce is weird.
