There are so many songs that are out there everywhere then all of a sudden they disappear and you only hear from them on cheesy countdowns run by music channels over Christmas if you are lucky.
So roll up and welcome to Forgotten Songs where we celebrate these forgotten wonders.
If You Ever – East 17 feat Gabrielle
First I am going to start with the back story of this song which I didn’t even know before reading about – this song was actually a cover. The origianl song was called If I ever Fall In Love and was released by the American RnB group Shai. The original reached number 2 in the US Charts in 1992.
The East 17 and Gabrielle version was released in OCtober of 1996, it was under the label of Go Beat, Universal Records and London Records. The song wa also renamed If You Ever, it was also the first single from East 17’s first Greatest Hits compliation: Around The World Hit Singles: The Journey So Far. It was also the fourth single from Garielles second album.
The single went into the charts at number 2 and went Platinum in the record sales. The single also did notoriously well in Denmark, IReland, Latvia and Sweden.
Listening ti the song now, it still has that nineties feel to it but it also is very catchy and you can see why it did so well in the charts. I think having a female on the record as well makes it very effecvtive and it would not have had the same impact without Gabirelle.
