FEATURE: Farewell To A Decade – Animation Films!

Another decade is ending so it is only right that we have a look at different media from every year since 2010. So over the next month we are going to look at films, music and other things from different years as to what I have enjoyed and reasons why! Ten years is a long time but it has gone so fast and there has been so much that has changed. we are going to start off the list with animation films.

Out of all the sorts of films that I watch, animation is up the top of one of my favourite genres. In the past 10 years there has been some fantastic animations made and it is only right we look at one from every year.

Despicable Me

Out of all of the years, I found 2010 the hardest to choose one film as there was so many that were released in the animation world that made a huge impact however this is one film that I feel made one of the greatest. I remember seeing the trailer for this film a year and a bit before it was released and I was one of the first that I know of to take interest in this film. I only wanted to see it as I knew Steve Carrell was part of it and knew it was going to be special – and it was. The story is adorable, the characters are lovable and the minions are one of my favourite things of the whole decade.

Whilst this may not be a lot of people’s favourite film, I adore this one for the humour and the way that animation interacts with humans. I am not a fan of Russell Brand being the lead voice and wish it was someone else, but I do really love rabbits and the ideology of the film and the different twist on Easter is also a fun concept.

Wreck it Ralph

This is again another film that really did sort of revoluntionise the way that animation was used. The way that it ventured through the world of the computer games was so unique and like anything before that it really was a wonderful film. No matter how many times you watch this film you always see something in the background that you didn’t the last time you watched it.

We cannot talk about this decade without talking about this film – it was the animation that made parents ears bleed of Let It Go and changed the way that Love was depicted in a Disney Film. Whilst it is not one of my favourites I really respect what it has done for animation and also how it has had a positive impact on young children – whilst also being a huge cash cow.

The Lego Movie

This is a film again that I am not really a fan of but I really admire and adore how it took animation to another level. Whilst I find them film predominantly erratic there are so many clever elements and I adore the creativity of the films narrative and the outcome really surprised me and I wasn’t expecting it.

Shaun The Sheep

I love Shaun the Sheep and when it was announced there was going to be a feature length film I was intrigued to see how it would work and also what it would be about. It did not fail to make me happy – I went in the middle of the day had the whole cinema to myself and it was perfect. I loved the film so much and it was everything I wanted from a Shaun the Sheep film.

I think this is one of my favourite animations to come out of this decade – I wanted to see it because of the bunnies (yes I love rabbits) but the story that came with it was adorable and I love it so much. I just love the way they have humanised animals and brought them into this new and interesting world. I am looking forward to the second one very much.

Emoji Movie

When I saw this was a film, I rolled my eyes and went ‘oh here we go’ and thought it was one of the most stupidest things I had saw put into a film. When the film went onto Netflix I felt that I should watch it to see how bad it was and actually was completely amazed by how good it was. It had a really good story and I found it a very good animation. I recommend a watch.

Early Man

I love Aardman films however this is one that I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy and I actually did even though it is a really random concept. I really liked the fact it put a different spin on the world of cavemen and it is a really fun film.

Toy Story 4

Toy Story has always played a huge part in my life and I loved it when they released Toy Story 3. When I read the news they were releasing a fourth that would be focused on a Love story I was very excited. Toy Story never lets me down and I love this film so much its wonderful and brought a perfect end to the whole franchise.
